When should a parent request a special education evaluation for their child?
If your child is facing ongoing challenges in school, it could be a sign of a disability affecting their learning. In such cases, the school might reach out to ask for your consent to evaluate your child. Additionally, according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), you have the right to request the school to evaluate your child if you suspect a disability is impacting their education. The evaluation aims to determine if your child has a disability that requires special education services, and this assessment is provided at no cost.
